See What’s Happening at Cape Henlopen State Park this March

Battery 519 at Cape Henlopen State ParkAs the weather warms up this March, there is no better place to visit in the Rehoboth Beach area than Cape Henlopen State Park. A beautiful nature preserve, the park is home to picnic pavilions, a disc golf course, hiking trails, bike paths and more – all with an incredible view of the ocean. Especially for families with children, one of the best parts of the Cape Henlopen experience is attending the fun and informative programs available. Whether you are looking for an exciting start to your morning or an adventurous end to your day, your children will love learning about animals and nature with the park’s staff.

Each month’s programs are different, and here are some of the great events occurring throughout March 2016:

Guppy Club: Good to Be Green

A program designed especially for the youngsters, Guppy Club classes are perfect for children age three to five. Spend this class exploring the outdoors and searching for signs of plant life as the spring season approaches. This program will be held on Thursday, March 3 at 10:30 a.m. and involves stories, crafts and more!

Bog Days of Winter

Search for wildlife in the cranberry bog area of Cape Henlopen State Park on Saturday, March 12. Blog Days of Winter starts and 11 a.m. and includes an interactive hike where you and your family will get to search for signs of wildlife as the weather grows warmer.

Battery 519 Lantern Tour

One of our favorite evening events at the park, the Battery 519 Lantern Tour is a unique opportunity to explore Fort Miles’ living history museum. Great for families who love history, you will get to hear all about what occurred in the area during World War II. Learn how the soldiers at Fort Miles planned to defend the area, how long the Battery construction took and more as you adventure through the dark.

The lantern tour takes place on Saturday, March 12 at 6:30 p.m., and there are also day-time tours you can take on Saturday, March 19.

Go Green!

A great program for children and parents alike, spend your morning making eco-friendly crafts while learning how to lead a more sustainable lifestyle. This course takes place on Saturday, March 19 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. and is a wonderful way for all members of your family to go green on the Delaware shore.

Down and Dirty Critters

Down and Dirty Critters takes place at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 23 and if you kids love to dig around in the mud, then this morning program is sure to be one of their favorite vacation activities! Dressed in some clothes you can get dirty in, your family will get to explore the mud and dirt beneath the park, finding creepy crawly critters and learning all about them and their homes.

Feeding Frenzy

Stop by Cape Henlopen State Park to feed the aquarium fish at Feeding Frenzy! Held Wednesday through Saturday from March 23 to April 2, this program is a fun choice for kids who love to learn about marine life. A free program, the class starts at 2 p.m. each day, so make sure to show up early for a front-row seat.

Egg-Case Hunt

Spending your Easter vacation in Rehoboth Beach? Your kids will love the chance to explore the beach while hunting for whelk and skate egg cases during the Egg-Case Hunt on Wednesday, March 30. This enjoyable morning activity is the perfect way to combine a day on the beach with an interesting learning experience!
