A beautiful and relaxing season here in Delaware, fall offers a crisp breeze and comfortable temperatures in the 60s and 70s. If you are planning to visit The Avenue this season, we recommend taking a short trip to Nassau Valley Vineyards. Delaware’s first and only award winning winery; Nassua Valley is open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Take a self-guided tour with your significant other or a group of friends. We recommend packing a picnic lunch, then stopping in for wine tasting and a walk through the History of Wine museum. A new exhibit is included every month, featuring the work of a regional artist. Wine tasting is $5 per person and includes a glass to take home. Peak season runs from November through May, so visit during the week to avoid crowds.
The vineyard currently has a selection of 14 wines and is home to a variety of grapes that produce Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot. Founded in 1987, Nassau Valley Vineyard was Delaware’s first commercial vineyard.
Enjoy an afternoon exploring the vineyard and learning more about the wine tasting process before heading back to the Atlantic View Hotel for an evening on the beach. Purchase a bottle of wine from the vineyard’s shop to drink as you toast to the beautiful Delaware sunset.
Visiting for Halloween? Nassau Valley Vineyards is hosting the Boo To Do. This evening event benefits Delaware Hospice and includes a gourmet meal, live music and a costume contest.
