If you’re going to be in the area this upcoming weekend, you’re in luck; there are a few exciting things being cooked up – literally! Chili fans from all throughout the Rehoboth Beach area and abroad will be making their way out to Cape Henlopen State Park in Lewes for the first-ever Chili in the Campground Cook-Off event!
Participants from all over will be bringing their A game and family recipes out to the campgrounds for a chance to win a ton of cool prizes and perhaps the most coveted thing of all: serious bragging rights. However, those who are not taking part in the actual cook-off itself will still get their fill of excitement by tasting all of the delicious samples and watching the verdict take form.
As a participant, you will spend two nights at the campsite. On Friday evening, enjoy sitting around a warm fire with friends and fellow chili enthusiasts as the staff goes over the rules for the contest. Then on Saturday, the competition and fun really begin as you whip up your top chili recipe for judges and spectators to sample. The categories for the competition include Hot and Spicy, Vegetarian and the Open Division, and each bowl is scored based on taste, presentation and creativity. First and second prizes will be named by the judges, but the rest of the campers will be able to vote for their “Crowd Favorite”.
You must be at the campsite for check-in by 6.30pm on Friday, and can begin cooking any time after the campfire. Entries are due by 3pm on Saturday and winners will be named on Saturday evening at 5pm.
If you consider yourself a big chili buff, this is one of the most fun weekends you can have in the Lewes area! Can’t make it this weekend? No problem! Chili Cook-Off events will be taking place in the Delaware State Parks until the second weekend of October.
