For couples and families looking for a relaxing seaside vacation, Rehoboth Beach is the perfect place to visit, even in the winter months. And if you are in need of a getaway this February, why not spice things up a bit with a jump in the Atlantic Ocean during the Polar Plunge?
An annual event to benefit Special Olympics DE, this year’s Polar Plunge takes place on Sunday, February 5, 2017.
One of our favorite things about the event? It gives all of Rehoboth Beach an opportunity to join together and raise money for the cause. And if you aren’t sure about the idea of plunging into the chilly waters of the Atlantic, there are plenty of other ways for you to participate.
Saturday, February 4 is filled with plenty of fun as well, with the Fire & Ice Weekend Festival, Restaurant Chili Contest and 5K Run to the Plunge all taking place as a prelude to the Polar Plunge!
Fire & Ice Festival
A little bit hot and a little bit cold, the Fire & Ice Festival is the place to go whether your favorite snack food is chicken wings or ice cream! Hosted at the Rehoboth Beach Fire Hall, sample hot wings from some of our favorite local shops or enjoy a bowl of ice cream with Woodside Farm Creamery!
The family-friendly fun takes place from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, providing you plenty of time to try a little bit of everything.
5K Run to the Plunge
Looking to get active without hitting the beach? Run or walk the 5K Run to the Plunge at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Registration is just $20, and the event gives you the perfect opportunity to see all the sights of Downtown Rehoboth Beach.
Register online (or print out your form) here.
Restaurant Chili Contest
After enjoying a bowl of ice cream or running around town in the February weather, the perfect place to end your Saturday is at the Restaurant Chili Contest! For just $5 you can sample chili from all the participating area restaurant and vote for your favorite.
There are already 7 great eateries participating, and more to come! Voting takes place from 2:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. with the winners announced Sunday at the Polar Plunge.
Ready to jump into the ocean for a good cause? Or sample some delicious coastal cuisine instead? However you decide to participate, we at The Avenue look forward to seeing you at the Polar Plunge this February.
