They are the heart of our hotel and why we achieve incredible accolades and high Trip Advisor ratings. We interviewed Jim Powers, General Manager at the Avenue Inn & Spa, to kick off this series. Here’s the inside scoop!
On the Job
When and how did you start with the Avenue Inn & Spa?
JP: My first day was October 12th, 2000. I started at the front desk.
What does a typical day look like for you?
JP: Answering phones, replying to emails, interaction with guests and staff. Also handling various issues with other hotels is normal.
What is the toughest part of your job?
JP: Managing my time.
The Good Stuff
What was your greatest success this past year and how did you celebrate it?
JP: Having the Avenue Inn & Spa named the #1 hotel in Delaware by Trip Advisor. The staff had a well deserved congratulatory party.
What was your fondest memory of a customer?
JP: A guest telling us that they had traveled all over the world, and had never had such great customer service as they received at the Avenue Inn & Spa.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
JP: What spare time???? – Seriously – I like to read, play golf and travel.
What is the one thing very few people know about you?
JP: That I’ve lived in Delaware since 1992 and have only been to the beach in Rehoboth 3 times.
Who do you admire or look up to?
JP: Rich Berryman – my high school basketball and golf coach.
