Favorite Fishing Spots near Rehoboth Beach

Love to fish, and planning a trip to Rehoboth Beach? You’re in luck! The Delaware beach area is a prime spot to catch trophy fish. Here are some of our favorite fishing spots in and near Rehoboth Beach:
Avenue Inn's favorite fishing spots

Cape Henlopen Fishing Pier

No matter what time of day you want to cast your line, come on down to this pier. It’s open 24-7! It’s an ideal spot for catching bluefish, stripers, croaker and flounder. You can also rent a kayak to fish for flounder around the pilings at the end of the pier.

Fisherman’s Wharf

Located 20 minutes away in Lewes, Delaware, this is our favorite jumping-off point to charter a boat for fishing trips in the Delaware Bay and Atlantic Ocean. Charter boats will provide tackle and bait; bring your own beverages, lunch and sunscreen. Half-day and full-day trips are available, as well as private charters. Keep in mind that the charter boats at Fisherman’s Wharf are seasonal. For up-to-date information, visit the Fisherman’s Wharf Facebook page. They may be closed between late December and March.

Indian River Inlet

At this fishing spot, you have the option of fishing from the charter boats in the marina, surf fishing from the beach or fishing the rocks on the jetty. You’re likely to catch some bluefish, striped bass, flounder or sea trout. Fishing with kids? Try casting your lines along the railings on the north and south sides of the inlet. The variety of fish that can end up on a hook at the Inlet always makes for an exciting fishing experience.

For those who love flounder, fish at
Bubblegum Beach next to the Coast Guard Station at the Indian River Inlet. Rockfish are also common in the area; saltwater flies are a great choice if you want to catch some rockfish there. Bubblegum Beach is also a launch point for many fishing charters that dock at the Indian River Inlet. This presents a great opportunity to have a memorable day sport fishing further into Delaware waters.

3R’s Beach

Just South of the Indian Rover Inlet, is 3R’s Beach, which is easily accessible from Route 1. There is plenty of parking space for newcomers unfamiliar with the area. For those with a permit you can bring your vehicle right onto the beach. The current Delaware striper record of 52 pounds was caught in the area, so it’s an excellent spot to fish striper. There is a quick drop-off at this beach, but with a surf pole in the 8-12 foot range one should have no problem getting their bait to the fish. It is recommended to use a 15-20 pound test during the summer months.
Whichever fishing spot you choose, just remember to purchase a fishing license before heading out.
