I want to take the time this year in my annual letter to talk about traditions. The definition of tradition is the “transmission of customs or beliefs from generation to generation, or the fact of being passed on in this way.” I use this word tradition because it is such an integral part of not only our guest experience at the Avenue Inn & Spa, but also the experience of our crew.

The Avenue Inn & Spa is truly woven into the fabric of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. Founded by the Simpler Family more than 80 years ago as a tearoom and then one of the top restaurants in the city, the Avenue Restaurant wasn’t just a place to dine—it was part of the Rehoboth Beach story, a beloved landmark that became a family tradition for thousands of loyal guests. The current Inn & Spa opened on the site of the restaurant in 1999 and quickly became a place that couples and families have continued to make a tradition. Many of our guests return to the Inn & Spa at least once, sometimes many times a year.

Maybe you are new to the Avenue Inn & Spa? Maybe you are just discovering us by reading this letter? If so, I welcome you to visit. Walk into our beautiful lobby and read our lobby board. This board is a microcosm of our tradition. You will see notes welcoming back our returning guests that have stayed with us 20 or more times. You will find celebrations of all kinds – birthdays, anniversaries, honeymoons and retirements. Because becoming a part of our guests’ beloved milestones is a big responsibility, and one that we take very seriously.
